How To Add Your Sharepoint Site to My Network Places

One of the key benefits of Microsoft Sharepoint is it's integration with the Microsoft Office suite. By adding your Netpoint hosted Sharepoint site to My Network Places you will be able to save your files from most applications directly to Sharepoint. You will additionally be able to drop and drag you files and backups straight to your sharepoint libraries in My Network Places without having to open internet explorer. Once you have added your Netpoint hosted Sharepoint site to My Network Places you will be able to interact with your remote Sharepoint site as though it is on your local network.

XP

To add your Sharepoint site to My Network Places under XP, go to the start menu and in the blue shaded column on the right click on My Network Places.

On the left hand side of the My Network Places page there is a heading called Network Tasks. Under this heading at the top click on Add a network place

The Add Network Place Wizard appears, click Next

With a single mouse click choose the Choose another network location option, then click Next

Now enter the address of your Netpoint hosted Sharepoint site white box next to the Browse button. The address will be https://netpoint.net.au/yoursite. If you don't feel like typing this in you can copy (Control + V ) the address from your Internet Explorer URL bar and paste it in (Control + C).

You will now see the familiar Sharepoint login box appear. Log in with your Username and Password then click OK

After a short time you will be prompted to Type a name for this network place: Here you may enter a descriptive name for your new network place. Your companies name or the name of your Sharepoint site would be appropriate here. If you like the default name you can just press OK.

Lastly, press Finish.

You will be returned to My network Places and you will observe that there is a new icon representing your new remote network place. To access it directly double click the icon and log in as normal.
